Building A Nation's Character

We are witnessing increasing violence all around. This disturbing trend is affecting our life to the core and changing our priorities. It is re-enforcing the need to carefully imbibe the relevant social values and ethics in our education system and curriculum. At KITE School we introspect and review the study pattern and activities periodically. It is important to understand that value-education must start right from the preschool days. Child’s behaviour pattern should be monitored and should be corrected, if needed. Here ‘correction’ does not mean aggression. Parents should work towards attaining desired results with affectionate and tender training. More importantly, we should inculcate social and human values in children not by preaching or ‘teaching’ but rather by showing them in our daily life interactions. Children observe and learn and internalize.

When children watch adults’ behaviour, they take it as approved social norm, they take it as a model in their sub-conscious mind. Therefore various models, derived from ‘watching’ different day to day situations, accumulate in the sub-conscious and a certain character starts building up in the child’s personality. Therefore it is utmost important that we behave consciously in front of our children. It is also equally important that we do not expose our children to inappropriate situations, scenes and media. We need to set proper example, we need to provide proper paradigm.

Every incident leaves a mark, every experience leaves an imprint. This is how children develop sense of truth, equality, empathy, justice and commitment. This is how society gets healthy and happy. This is how a nation’s character is built. This is how we get sons and daughters who make us proud!

Control That Bragging!

Bragging comes so naturally to children!

Children get into bragging about their possessions and boasting about their ‘achievements’ and experiences, too. They may brag about ‘so many Barbie dolls’ or ‘ten remote controlled cars’ to make an impression on their peers. It could be a part of their innocence, as most child psychologists opine. However they also warn that parents and care-givers should watch that this habit doesn’t grow beyond simply sharing joyous experiences and imaginations.

As long as it is not aimed at hurting or belittling others, it may be considered fine. But parents should get worried if their child is becoming a compulsive bragger or ‘victim’ to other peer-bragger. If your child is mentioning about somebody’s bragging, you should talk to your child to distress him/her and to ignore that friend’s bragging. Reveal that it is not a serious truth. If your child is the bragger then pay attention and train him/her to praise others too. Appreciation begets appreciation.

It is just a part of inculcating positive social behaviour in children. And while doing so even you may learn a thing or two. Because even some of the grown up are no less braggers!

Every Journey Begins With Small Steps

Every year I am enthralled to see the little ones curiously starting the preschool years.  Children are natural learners but they have to cope up with certain anxieties also, such as ‘separation from home’, ‘interacting with peers’ and ‘experiencing new communication in a novel environment’. This happens with the new entrants. KITE School has devised the methodology that helps kids to deal with these hindrances. This year the transition has been particularly smooth. This is reassuring as well as inspiring! Continuing students are already initiated into the ‘learning system’ anyway. Hence they have the advantage of being the familiar group.
You’ll find many new ideas being implemented this year. At KITE School we continuously strive to engage new and better ways to accelerate the learning process. Extra-curricular activities will soon begin. We have even better inventory of audio-visual material to make the learning more effective and enjoyable. We are continuing with Field trips for the ‘hands on’ experience and the Yoga time for Jr. & Sr. KG which will have carefully chosen exercises especially for the small ones.
Your little ones are taking baby steps towards a meaningful journey of life. But small steps do not belittle the journey. Get involved. Enjoy this wonderful time. This is as important for your child as is memorable for you!

Save your child from Too Violent, Too Vitiating, Too Vulgar TV !

Recently Hindustan Times—a leading newspaper of Mumbai—has announced a very unique campaign… ‘NO TV Day’ on 29th January this year.

We support its spirit with head and heart. TV has intruded in our lives robbing the simple and precious family moments out of it. The family members gather in one room and still are not looking at and interacting with each other. We all rather look at the idiot box most of the time. It is not a case against the powerful medium that TV is, it is the content that it pours out at us without discretion at the will of greedy brands and sponsors.
TV is becoming more and more harmful for your impressionable children. Generally we just ignore this potential hazard because we are unable to find the alternatives. But is it a valid excuse?

This is high time now that you be alert and watchful of what your child watches on TV and what you watch while your child is around. A child picks up the language and actions in fragments from the TV programmes. It could be a mean and vulgar reality show, obscene comedy show or a violent cartoon show—which are, unfortunately, in abundance on TV in India.

Research shows that a preschooler—2 to 5 year old—is most vulnerable to micro-psychological disorders which may not show adverse effects right now but as the child grows these become ‘knots’ in the psyche of the child. Then the child . may lack in perception, concentration and . discretion. Overall social development is . definitely twisted with this. Whatever child gathers from TV is processed and interpreted very differently in child’s growing mind. So, be watchful. You might have to sacrifice your favourite programme or might have to change the timing to see the repeat.

And finally, DO NOT use TV as a reward (if you are good, I will let you watch cartoon show) OR a punishment (if you won’t obey, you won’t get any TV today).

A suggestion: you can plan to have a ‘NO TV DAY’ more often.

KITE School | Mira Road | Season's Greetings |

It’s a wonderful time of the year. Everybody is eagerly waiting for the new year with new plans and hopes. Things which are scheduled for this year must be finished now. No baggage should be carried forward in the new year!

KITE School at Mira Road organized Christmas party at the school on 21st December which was also the last working day of the school in this calendar year. Santa Clause came with gifts for everyone. All the kids were gleaming in lovely dresses and then children danced with Santa. Little toes were dancing in freestyle mode with their own rhythm. And you bet, there was perfect harmony with the music, the celebration and the participation.

Have a look at few pictures:

And while leaving the school every child got a gift from Santa. Most of the kids were surprised... particularly the tiny tots of Playgroup.

Finally, all the teachers wished each other and had a group picture with our director Mrs. Vandana Saxena to cherish the sweet memory of 2010.

So, you also have a blast at the new year eve!

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
