KITE School celebrates Diwali with vigour and cheer!!!

Today, at KITE School, was the grand celebration of Diwali! 
And also the ‘Diya Decoration Competition’. 
Parents had put in genuine effort – and it was so obvious and heartfelt.
KITE School invited parents to volunteer as judge also and many parents obliged.
It was such a wonderful day…

Build Bridges Of Communication And Care

Ours is a time of sea change. New systems, new sensibilities, new perspective, new technology and newer gadgets are zipping past all around us in the social arena. A new ecosystem is being formulated at a startling speed. Learning and teaching methods should also adapt to this change at the early years itself. 

The way parents and care-givers used to communicate earlier should change to  a more  focussed  and  more responsible approach. You can’t give examples of your childhood anymore. They are not relevant anymore. This is going to be a ‘touchscreen ready’ generation therefore older ways of communication and perceptions are redundant to a large extent. 

Now we need to be more logical, precise and caring while giving any instruction to the child. In other words, your instructions should be convincing, to-the-point and empathising. This is even more significant during the foundation years of early education. While dealing with small kids it is important that we come at the eye-level of the child and then interact lovingly with him/her. Sitting down or lying down beside the child makes it easier to connect and communicate. 

It’s true that every child inherits many things genetically that help shaping up the body and the brain but in today’s world equally crucial is the way the child is nurtured. Child’s mental abilities, cognitive development and social achievement largely depend upon the early experiences and environments. So don’t impose, rather interact. Don’t go onto a long speech and confuse, rather be short and clear. Don’t behave as typically ‘grown-ups’, rather see the world through the child’s sensibility and you’ll discover that the key to raise a smarter, achiever and happy child is to build two way bridges of communication and care at early stages of childhood. 

You’ll be rewarded with great insights, sense of accomplishment as parent and blissful experiences… I can assure you that! 

KITE School Navratri Celebrations!!!

The festive season was at full bloom in KITE School at Navratri celebrations. Each one was cutely dressed in traditional colourful dress. It was all glowing...

The Joy of giving enriches us from within !!

Let me first wish you a very happy and blissful festive season ahead. We all wait for the festivals. These are the occasions when we celebrate, we socialize, we share and we care. We seek inner joy and feel divine blessings.

During the course of academic session it is the ‘Govinda’ festival that kickstarts the season of festive-celebrations every year. Like yesteryears, we had a mock ‘Dahi Handi’ in the school where every child reached the handi climbing on an elevated pallet, instead of a human-pyramid, and hit the handi. Children really enjoyed the attention, glittered décor and joyous mood. They really loved being photographed in their colourful dresses.

Festive occasions also provide the opportunity to make our little ones experience the joy of giving. Children should be made to understand that these celebrations are meant to have a good time with our near and dear ones. Children should also be taught that festivals are not to flaunt your wealth; it is the inherent spirit that makes it important. These views should be imbibed at an early age so that the child  grows up with this perspective.

It is not important how much money you spend, it is important how socially relevant and emotionally meaningful you make it. Let whole family be part of this affair. Choose gifts thoughtfully. Let your child hand over the gift. If you have more than one child, then give attention equally. Also teach your child how to receive gifts graciously. Social courtesies are the little gems which make a neighborhood full of positive energy. Giving and sharing are the great social values which build self-esteem and character.

These memories are cherished. These moments are treasured. These learnings are precious. Joy of giving enriches us from within. And who else can inculcate the value of giving than the greatest giver ever – the mother! Again, happy celebrations!

Learn How Children Learn

Festive season is in full bloom now. Navratri celebrations are just concluded. The music and rhythm of Garbas and dandiyas are still ringing in the atmosphere. Dassera is being celebrated today and Eid is just around the corner. Diwali and Christmas are not far behind. 

Festivals break the routine. Festivals bring joy. Festivals are universal stress-busters. And, I think, learning process should be exactly that… a life-long stress-buster … a festival forever!

Learning would be a festival forever… if we remove the burden from it, if it seems all play, if it is accepted as a gift, if it brightens relationships, if it brings families together, if it adds something new every time with the familiar, if it inspires, if it involves, if it is an endless celebration!

And when it happens that way, children learn. Children explore and learn from experiences. Children observe and learn by imitating. Children learn by memorizing and recall. If this process is set right then overall development is set into motion.

Children will learn well if adults learn about how small children learn.

Learning From The Spirit Of Festivals

Festive season has already begun and one can hear the drums welcoming Maharashtra’s favourite Ganapati Bappa at the doorstep. And the worst fear of drought is swept away with enough downpours lately. So, there is relief, there is joy, there is celebration.

Let me wish you all a very happy and blissful festive season. Festivals have this inherent feeling of joy and excitement. And that is the soul of the process of true learning. I genuinely think that learning is a lifelong festival. All that we yearn in learning is embedded in the spirit of festivals… social values, joy of giving, celebration of life, knowing, sharing, helping, enjoying, happiness and bliss.

Let the child be a part of festivals. And that should not be limited to shopping only. Children learn a great deal through participation. Make the child a part of the whole process… explain little things, answer the queries—no matter how trivial they seem, interact and ask about his/her reactions…

Children are never too small to learn!!!

Child's Brain Building: Parents Have A Big Role To Play

A mom of a playgroup child told me last week how happy she is to notice the numerous learnings her child has picked up so soon. She is also happy to see the new positive changes in her child. We often get such reactions and compliments. And, of course, it reinforces our faith in our methodology. But today I would like to share the next step in the process of ‘Brain Building’ of your child.

Let us figure it out. A child is born with over 100 billion or 10000 crores brain cells or neurons – sixteen times the world population! And each of these cells is capable of making over 15000 connections. Through these ‘connections’ a child internalizes the experiences and acquires new learnings. Now, what should be our role? 

Obviously, learnings should be preserved and the stock should grow. Interestingly this stock does NOT grow automatically like a savings bank account. It will rather vanish if not strengthened. Yes, if they are not used, the learning pathways are obliterated. This is called the “use it or lose it” principle.

This is what you should be doing – helping the child to use a ‘connection’ repeatedly so that it becomes permanent in the brain. Repeat and revise what your child is learning at school. Please note that we are not promoting rote-learning. It should not be memorizing by repetition, it should be understanding, perceiving and comprehending by revision.  And it should be fun. No stress, no strain. A regular routine will help a long way.

Sensory learnings, activity-centric knowledge and words-phrases based language connections should be inculcated in the early years. Parents have a big role to play in this. You’ll be happy for doing this as you’ll proudly see your little one blooming. 

As they say, ‘the first years last forever’.

We celebrated Christmas and heralded the New Year 2012 with joy and jubilation!!!

Sports are crucial to a child’s physical, psychological and intellectual development Outdoor sports activity stimulates the brain. This was so exultantly evident in KITE School’s sports competitions. KITE School | Mira Road | Season's Greetings |

It’s a wonderful time of the year. Everybody is eagerly waiting for the new year with new plans and hopes. Things which are scheduled for this year must be finished now. No baggage should be carried forward in the new year!

KITE School at Mira Road organized Christmas party at the school on 21st December which was also the last working day of the school in this calendar year. Santa Clause came with gifts for everyone. All the kids were gleaming in lovely dresses and then children danced with Santa. Little toes were dancing in freestyle mode with their own rhythm. And you bet, there was perfect harmony with the music, the celebration and the participation.

And while leaving the school every child got a gift from Santa. Most of the kids were surprised... particularly the tiny tots of Playgroup.

Finally, all the teachers wished each other and had a group picture with our director Mrs. Vandana Saxena to cherish the sweet memory of 2010.

Orange Colour Day at KITE School ! Mira Road

All the hues of Orange—from deep golden to pastel yellowish—were glittering in KITE School on 16th December… of course, it was Orange Colour Day!


Although few parents forgot about this day and sent their children in regular school uniform yet most of the children seemed prepared.

Different activities, related to orange colour, were designed for different classes for this particular day. Kids in orange dresses did Orange Day activities against the assorted Orange images of various objects and scenes.

The decoration included Orange balloons in plenty. Each child got a balloon while leaving on this day.
