No parent wants to spank the child but there are occurrences when parents lose their control. They say, “He is so naughty” or “She needs to learn discipline” or “I do it only when he is just uncontrollable. What can I do?” We understand your feelings. But discipline should never be confused with punishment. Discipline is a positive learning while punishment is a negative reaction.
Then, what to do? First we must find out and understand why a child misbehaves. It could be the feeling that he/she isn't getting enough positive attention. If you react in such a situation by yelling or spanking then the child might get the message that this is the only way to get your attention. So it becomes counter-productive.
Be patient. Don’t shout. Saying it in lower volume always works better. Try to listen to him/her. Make the atmosphere conducive. Show your concern. Make your child see logic in what you are saying. And make it SHORT. Lengthy explanations are also counter-productive.
Sometimes jealousy, stress or frustration may also be the cause of bad behaviour. You should observe it. Teach him/her to respect others. And the best way to do this is to show respect to him/her. Children learn by imitating. Be a ‘right’ role model for your child.
Discipline is taught by example. Set rules for your child as well as for yourself. Show your child that you’re following rules set for you then affectionately tell that you expect him/her to follow rules set for him/her. Then, do not forget to give your ‘positive attention’. Show it, say it... that you noticed it. This will imbibe discipline as ‘way of life’ in your child.

KITE School | KITE line... We need to ponder upon this.
The new year has begun with a rather depressed note in Mumbai. We are getting shockingly disturbing news of suicides by students every alternate day. What is more heartbreaking is that some of them were really of tender age. This reflects the undue stress on young children to ‘perform’. Many a time parents and the peer group both are at fault. Our education system is also to be blamed.
Every child cannot be the best in all fields. When parents expect this, they put the damaging pressure on the child’s mind. One must note that every child is unique with certain distinctive qualities and talent. We should try to discover that talent and let the child explore his/her path. We should not predetermine the child’s career and put a label on his/her future. We should try to provide the best possible learning and growing environment and then let the child blossom and show his/her talent.
Some parents think that small children don’t get stressed. Well, it’s not true. Even small children have their own anxieties, frustrations, tensions and stress. I think it is of paramount importance to have communication with the child. Never neglect or ignore or belittle your child’s frustration/anxiety. Talk it out. With care, concern and caution. Never break the communication. Never let isolation creep between you and your child.
Early years of your child are the most precious as these make the foundation on which a future will be built! Take care.

These occassions are specially important to hone social skills in kids. Wishing and greeting each other are part of the celebration. Then each child receives a gift from Santa Claus. Joy of giving!
It was a wonderful day which filled the space with joyous energy. KITE School will now open on 4th January, 2010.

Waiting for Diwali Celebration!
In spite of the second wave of rains and the shower of political brouhaha, the mood all around is beaming with joyous jubilations and forthcoming Diwali vacations!
KITE School will celebrate Diwali on this Friday,9th October. Besides other fun-activities we’ll also show the children a demo on ‘Fire Safety’. Afterwards a hand out of safety tips will be handed over to every child. Diwali-fireworks are part of celebrations but we all should follow these safety measures.
All the children will come to KITE School in festive dress. This is the last working day before Diwali vacations and KITE school will re-open on 3rd November, 2009.
Happy celebrations!

Navratri Celebration -- bountiful exhilaration!
Festivities are in full swing. KITE School celebrated Navratri with the spirit and vibrancy of pure joy. Small children in colourful dresses were energising the whole surrounding. These social events play an important role in developing the child's inner attributes--behavioral, temperamental, emotional and mental--that characterize a unique individual.
